It is that time of the school year when The Influence1 Foundation has begun receiving request from members of our school community for our holiday baskets. The cornerstone of our organization is service and we have pledged to give back to our school community in our efforts.

The Foundation has inquired to our senior committee for a little help on changing things for this academic year when it comes to organizing the holiday baskets. The committee suggested that our community members might need more than just food in the baskets we provide. The Foundation will inquire to the families of their needs for example food, socks, t-shirts, coats or gently used toys.

The Class of 2012 review business and dining etiquette at Chez Philippe

“If we stay within flexible bounds of etiquette, we will give relationships a chance to grow. In turn, we will be able to present ourselves with confidence and authority in all areas of life,” Chancellor of City University Schools, R. Lemoyne Robinson said.

In efforts to better prepare scholars for professional adulthood, City University School of Liberal Arts held its annual Senior Etiquette Dinner at Chez Philippe at The Peabody on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 29).

Dressed in all-black attire, the Class of 2012 gathered to learn business and dining etiquette from Chancellor Robinson and Estella Mayhue-Greer, President and CEO of Mid-South Food Bank.

Senior Scholars began their lesson Saturday afternoon by reviewing how to network and greet one another at a restaurant.

“If you are standing in the same space talking to the same person for more than 5 minutes, you’ve been there too long,” advised Robinson. “You need to break out of your comfort zone and meet different people. This is what networking is about.”

After a moment of socializing and introductions, Mayhue-Greer started the dinner by reviewing essential table manners and explaining the use of appropriate silverware.

“Remember, utensils on the outermost position of your plate are used first,” stated Mayhue-Greer. “Forks belong on the left side. Knives and spoons are on the right.”

Chef Jason Dallas, prepared the three-course meal, consisting of baby field greens, bread and butter, a choice of Chicken Palliard or Scottish Salmon and a dessert choice of Key Lime Tart or Chocolate Mousse Bomb.

Throughout the dinner, Mayhue-Greer conducted informational intermissions and visited all tables to observe and correct scholars’ table manners.

After the meal, Chancellor Robinson and the Senior Scholar Committee presented awards of appreciation to Mrs. Mayhue-Greer and Chef Jason Dallas.

According to faculty and administrative staff in attendance, the scholars enjoyed the fantastic meal at Chez Philippe and realized that they will be confident and comfortable when attending future business functions or other professional events.
